New Galilee, Pennsylvania, US 15th November 2004

Caro signor Gianni,

God bless you!  Have a wonderful holiday season.

Roberta

Dear Gianni,

I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to receive your email about my cousins, Maria Rosa and Elvira.  It was so exciting to realize that I still have relatives living in Italy.  The most amazing of all to me was when I saw the newspaper article, and immediately saw the pictures of my parents and I and my grandparents.  It was very emotional for me to realize that my grandfather had probably sent those pictures to his nephew, Francesco, so many years ago and they were still kept by the family after all these years. I have two friends who were both born in Italy and they helped me to translate the articles.  Imagine the excitement when I finally learned the name (Lazzaro) of my grandfather's brother who had remained in Italy.

I am composing a letter to the cousins, and sending along a picture of myself and my family.  I noticed in the article that they have no other relatives on the Ramponi side in Italy.  Well, I will be sharing with them that they have not only me, but six other Ramponi cousins here in America.  My father had three brothers.  One of them, Luigi, died at the age of five, but my Uncle Angelo had two children and my Uncle Arthur had four children. My cousins here are so happy to know that we have discovered family in Italy.  Thank you for your help. If there is ever anything that I can do to help you with your research, please let me know.

We are all very proud of our ancestors who came to a new country, learned a new language, and worked hard to become citizens of this great country.  However, we are also so very proud of our Italian heritage. I recall my grandparents referring to Italy as "the old country", and my cousins and I have every intention of visiting there someday together to see the land of our roots.

God bless you!  Have a wonderful holiday season.

Roberta
